- Heber City, UT—On December 1, 2021, our beloved Dad/Opa passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was reunited with the love of his life, Emmy Johanna.
Richard Dee Boekweg was born August 12, 1934, in Ogden, UT. He was a real cowboy thru and thru. He loved to hunt and fish, having grown up at the foothills of the Wasatch mountains. He loved camping/RVing. He and Emmy traveled all over North America for months at a time. He loved finding that perfect roadside cafe with tasty food!
Dutch, as he was known by almost everyone, worked very hard throughout his life. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Iowa. Became a truck driver (back when you had to be a he-man to drive/load/unload trucks). Owned his own trucking firm, drove for numerous companies and retired in 1996. Dutch and Emmy raised their daughters in La Palma, CA eventually retiring to Santa Clara, UT.
Dutch never lacked self-confidence! He very often would sing the song by Mac Davis; "Oh Lord it's hard to be humble, When you're perfect in every way. I can't wait to look in the mirror, Cause I get better looking each day. To know me is to love me, I must be a hell of a man. Oh Lord It's hard to be humble, But I'm doing the best that I can."
Dutch loved to go four-wheeling with the Boys and going to lunch with his friends. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Santa Clara Heights 11th Ward. He had a strong faith and love of the Savior. He and Emmy were sealed to each other and to their family for time and eternity on August 12, 2000.
According to Dutch, there was never a reason to miss a significant (or relatively minor) family event. From breaking his leg and going to see his daughter just before their first granddaughter was born, to pulling up to a softball or field hockey game (right before they started) in the semi with a tractor trailer (usually after having worked 13-14 hours!), to driving halfway across the country to watch grandchildren play or participate in all kinds of activities. His daughters fondly remember him coming home from work and yelling upstairs or outside, "hey do you girls wanna go get a licky?" Licky = Ice Cream. Dad loved his family dearly and he will be greatly missed.
Dutch is survived by his daughters; Debbie Huffman, Linda Fife (David), grandkids; Kari Freeman (Skyler), Kortney Anderton (Allan), Casey Lythgoe (Kevin), Karson Huffman-Canez (Beto), Cory Fife (Susan), Kholby Peterson (Alex), Caytlin Jones (Erik), and Corrine Fife. Great-grandkids; Danielle, Abel, Paysen, Braxton, Hartley, Emmie, Samuel, Aurora, Kaiya, Shae, Madison, Annabelle, Elysa, Athena. Great-great grandkids; Ivy and Roman.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Santa Clara Heights 11th Ward located at 3815 Rachel Dr, Santa Clara, UT 84765.
