- An exemplary and faithful life came to a close with the passing of our beloved Heber Blaine Kapp, who passed away May 31, 2017. His righteous influence, his service, his leadership, and his dedication will be greatly missed. He was born January 13, 1926, in Ogden, Utah to Harm and Pietkerke Kapp, the 4th of 9 children. His father passed away when Heber was 9 years old. He was raised on his grandfather’s farm by his widowed mother, who died at age 46.
At age 18, Heber joined the US Navy serving in the South Pacific as a signalman during World War II. This began the deterioration of his hearing. Upon returning home he was called as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Western Canadian Mission, 1947-1949, which included the calling as district president in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He married Ardeth Greene, who he met on his mission, June 28, 1950 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. When they first met, Heber wrote in his journal, “Met Bishop Greene’s daughter. She is cute and fun, but kind of young.” Heber obtained a degree from Weber State College, U of U, and did graduate studies at USU in the field of education. Upon completion of his schooling he taught in California and Utah. He is remembered for his great relationship with his students and his sense of humor.
In 1972 he left the teaching profession due in part to his hearing loss and became involved with real estate, building and contracting. He will be remembered as a builder of people and a builder of buildings. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed the beauties of nature.
Heber served faithfully in the LDS Church including as a high councilor, Bishop, councilor to the State President, Stake President, Regional Representative, Mission President of the Canada Vancouver Mission, and Sealer in the Bountiful Temple. Heber and Ardeth were called to be President and Matron of the Cardston Alberta Temple where they had been married 50 years earlier. After returning home, they were called as Utah North Area Coordinators of the EFY program and Gospel Doctrine teacher in their ward.
Heber was a trusted friend, capable leader, and a totally dedicated, supportive, and loving husband in every way. Although not blessed with children, Heber and Ardeth accepted and lived the wisdom of President David O. McKay, “The noblest aim in life is to strive to make other lives happy”; they feel richly blessed by following that commitment. His favorite song from his early childhood was “I’ll be a Sunbeam for Jesus, I Can If I But Try”. He became a bright light throughout his life.
Heber is survived by his wife of 67 years, his brother Leroy Kapp, and his sister Berniel Voss.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2017 in the Bountiful Canyon Park Ward Chapel, 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful, Utah, where friends and family may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Monday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
