He was born October 4, 1918 in Salt Lake City, the oldest son of George Jacob and Annie Marie Bohn Boekweg (Buckway). He served an LDS mission beginning in Holland and finishing in the Eastern States after the start of World War II. He served in the Army as a Medic after his mission. He married Esther Johanna Nemelka, January 5, 1942; later divorced. He married Marian Marie VanQuill, May 19, 1984. Carl worked hard, holding two jobs for many years. He drove truck for Kraft Foods and was a chef. He worked later for Granato Foods. He enjoyed dancing, golf, traveling, and most importantly--reading. He and Marian worked in the Jordan River Temple baptistery. He is survived by his children: Ted Boekweg, David Boekweg (Merilynn), Marilyn Boekweg, Kent Boekweg, all of Salt Lake City, Utah; Linda Alger (Dennis), Kent, Washington; Arlene Seger (Jim), Placerville, California; Val Jean Wright (Ron), Claude VanQuill, LuDean Brown (Bill), all of Sandy, Utah; Weston Ison (Elaine), Tooele, UT; Gaylen VanQuill (Pam), Wisconsin. Brothers: George Buckway, Nampa, Idaho; and Joseph Buckway, Salt Lake City, Utah; sister-in-law, Jane Colledge; brother-in-law, Lew Cross Jr.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marian; son, Ronald; sisters, Virginia Potkins and Marie Breinholt; brothers, Edwin, Melvin, Leland and David Buckway. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Rd. Friends and family may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St., and from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday prior to graveside services.
