- Grant Wilford Kapp was born March 13, 1938 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Wilford and Geneva Kapp.
On June 9, 2011 he passed away after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer at his home in Boise, surrounded by his family. He was deeply loved and will be missed greatly.
Grant grew up the oldest of four children in Springville, Utah, where he had a wonderful childhood. He spent many hours learning to cook and work hard in the family café. He graduated from Springville High School in 1956 where he was involved in many extracurricular activities and has never missed a class reunion.
After high school, he joined the Army National Guard where he served many years, some of them as a cook. In 1958, he left the states to serve an LDS mission in the Netherlands for 2 ? years and he became proficient in the Dutch language. After his mission, Grant attended Brigham Young University where he later graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
During that time, in 1961, he met and married Judy VanZweden of Ogden, Utah, who became his wife of 50 years.
He began a very distinguished career in sales and marketing management in 1962 at Phillips Petroleum Company. In 1974 he went to work for Mountain Bell, a subsidiary of AT&T. Over the years he held different managerial positions with AT&T in Salt Lake City and Boise. During this time he continually exceeded sales goals and objectives and earned numerous awards. He retired from AT&T in 1998.
Grant is a former member of the Board of the Boise Opera, and was currently serving on the Board of Directors for Boise Music Week. Grant was also a current District Election Judge and had served in this capacity for several years.
Grant devoted many hours of selfless service to the LDS church in various capacities including Bishop. After retirement, Grant never stopped working. He spent many hours serving others, much of it through the LDS church humanitarian services and in his calling as a temple worker. Grant served 25 years as a conference usher at the LDS Tabernacle in Salt Lake City.
He loved spending time with friends and family at the family's cabin in Cascade; snowmobiling, splitting wood, fishing, hunting and playing games. Other favorite pastimes included gardening, reading, cooking and baking. Often neighbors and friends were excited to receive a plate of his homemade cinnamon rolls or a bag full of vegetables from his garden.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Boise; four children, Jeff (Jane), of Meridian, Kris (PC) Cantil, of Bountiful, UT, Tonya (Marty) Melander, of Meridian, Nathalie, of Geneva, Switzerland; mother; sisters, Patti Pallet, Peggy Wright and Sue Durrant; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, brother, and a grandson.

Memorial services will be held under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel, on Monday, June 13, 2011 at the LDS Chapel located at 3700 S. Maple Grove Rd. in Boise at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing prior to the services at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call on Sunday evening, June 12th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah, Boise.
